The setting of it is a small town, which I think is very important, to give it that suffocating feeling. I need a strong opening. I was thinking: “A man whose family has been butchers for three generations, who also frequents horse breeding facilities, yet he clutches a volume of Pushkin’s poetry.” That should do it. The plot? It's about a marriage that begins with this huge contrast. Likun and Yue'e. But their honeymoon phase is brief, and the cracks quickly become gaping chasms. I need to be careful with the way I approach this, with the way things unravel. We're talking secrets, betrayal, the devastating "green hat".
