A green train slowly leaves a station deep in the mountains. Inside the train windows, a young man is full of ambition, eager to leave the earthy feel, while outside the windows, a wife is hugging her young child, her eyes full of reluctance and worry. This is the watershed of Hou Tianming's life. Like countless grassroots people eager to change their fate, he said goodbye to the moist land of Qianjiang, Chongqing, and plunged headlong into Beijing, this steel forest. In Beijing, relying on his wit and unyielding tenacity, he has been struggling in the workplace, trying to weave a bright future. However, behind the prosperity of the big city are extreme loneliness and cruel competition, and the wife, children and elderly father far away from home are also undergoing various changes in this long separation. He is torn by reality between the neon lights of the metropolis and the small bridges and flowing water of his hometown. A story about survival, dignity and belonging has been launched in this round-trip between the north and the south.

What impressed me most about this work is that it did not write "dream" into a kind of suspended chicken soup, but filmed it as the persistence in a mess. It's like a mirror that reflects reality, accurately capturing the pain and confusion of that generation of Beipiao people. Bai En's Hou Tianming is very real. He is not a flawless male lead. He has little cleverness and vanity. He has even been shaken in the face of temptation, but it is precisely because of this imperfection that we feel that he is the ordinary person around us who is struggling for a few scraps of silver. The script's depiction of the gap between urban and rural areas is extremely delicate. On the one hand, there is the fast-paced survival rule in Beijing's office buildings, and on the other hand, there is the loneliness and expectation of rural left-behind families. This huge tension makes the story full of fireworks. It is not only telling a person's struggle, but also exploring that when we leave the mountains to pursue a better life, how should we place those people and emotions that are left behind? After watching it, people can't help but reflect: Are we running so fast to reach the end, or to find our original home?
