In the midst of a snowstorm on Mount Tiantong in the Song Dynasty, a young Japanese monk kneels on a cushion, his gaze clear, but with an almost stubborn craving. This monk's name is Dogen. He crossed the stormy waves and came to China. He originally thought he could obtain the supreme Buddhist Dharma, but what he saw were only the incense calculations and power transactions in the temples. Just when he was almost disappointed with this turbid world, a crisp sound of a Zen board shattered all the fog. Dogen returned to Japan, which was in the midst of the chaotic Kamakura era, with the truth he had comprehended. What awaited him was not a welcome, but a land of killing and famine. The monks at that time were busy fighting for power and profit, and ordinary people were struggling in suffering. Dogen chose a simple thatched hut and did only one thing: sitting meditation. He refused the general's reward and was not afraid of the arson threats of his political enemies. This kind of extreme tranquility seemed so out of place in the noisy era. However, a miserable prostitute named Arin, who was carrying her baby and begging for food everywhere, broke into this silence. Her appearance was like a stone thrown into a deep pool, setting off ripples deep in Dogen's heart about compassion and practice. In the gaps between power struggles, religious exclusion, and human desires, how would Dogen lead his disciples to build Eihei-ji, a temple to comfort souls, in the desolate mountains of Echizen? I'm aiming for a vibe of calm, meditative, and visually stunning. The feeling of… well, it's like a visual meditation, yeah, a visual meditation.

This film is like an oil lamp burning quietly in the deep night. It is not dazzling, but it can illuminate the most secret corners of the heart. It does not have those exaggerated action scenes, but it captures the concentration of Zen, which is just sitting, and shoots a thrilling sense of power. The leading actor, Nakamura Kankuro, comes from a Kabuki family. His upright temperament, like an ancient pine, perfectly interprets what is called immovable as a mountain. What moved me the most was the film's treatment of the four seasons. It is not just a landscape, but also the natural breath of life in the withered and decayed. When you see Dogen entering samadhi in the midst of the red leaves or the vast snow, you will feel a great comfort, as if all the disturbances in the world have been melted away with the falling snow. Yuki Uchida, who plays Arin, injects a touch of warm human atmosphere into this cold film. Her interaction with Dogen explores the deepest connection between the practitioner and the suffering of the world. It's not just telling the biography of a historical figure, but more like a visual meditation. In today's fast-paced world, watching this movie is like giving the brain a deep SPA. You will find that true power often does not lie in the shouting, but in the tranquility that can see through life and death and still sit safely in a storm. If you have been feeling restless recently, 【电影介绍】在大宋天童山的漫天飞雪中,一位年轻的日本僧人正跪在蒲团上,他的目光清澈却透着一种近乎执拗的渴求。
