It starts with this incredibly unsettling image: the late-night office, the tapping of keys echoing through the empty halls... you think it's just another overtime night, until you look up and see *him* – the stranger you witnessed falling from a high-rise earlier that day – standing right there, by the water cooler, staring with dead eyes. That creeping fear, it's not a one-off jump scare; it’s a decade-long reality for the protagonist, Zhi. Every night, the same nightmare, an inescapable web that traps her in a dark, old house. And then, the lines between dream and reality start to blur. As a journalist, Zhi is desperate to escape this shadow. Then, during a work assignment, she and her colleagues stumble upon an isolated walled village and an old house. The moment she pushes open the door, it's like time stops. The furnishings, the shadows on the walls... it's all exactly like what she's been dreaming for ten years. And there’s this mysterious man named Wen guarding the house. His gaze... it's disturbingly familiar. Is it a connection from a past life, or is someone setting an elaborate trap in the real world?

The film just has this incredibly bleak aesthetic that was so characteristic of Hong Kong thrillers of the early 2000s. The cold, desaturated visuals, that damp atmosphere... it gets under your skin. Yoyo Mung's performance is phenomenal; she really captures that sense of fragility, this woman being slowly broken down by these nightmares, but also the strength to face the truth. And Edmond Leung, as her supportive boyfriend, is this ray of warmth amidst all the suspense. But his warmth makes the later plot twists all the more chilling. It's actually less about the jump scares, and more like a psychological battle with the subconscious. The director really uses the walled village's unique atmosphere to build this feeling of claustrophobia and inevitable doom. As the fragments of the dream slowly come together in reality, the most frightening thing isn't actually the ghost; it's the hidden darkness of humanity that has been locked away deep in memory. And that fleeting appearance by Helena Law Lan? It's the perfect touch. Her commanding presence? It brings the whole movie to a new, higher level of thrilling.
