** I'm thinking about *I Love HK 2013*, this Hong Kong film, and I'm transported. It's the 1970s. The air smells like pineapple buns, the neon signs are blazing. I'm seeing two very different young men, Song Chi-hung and Ha Sek-sam, thrown together by fate. One, Song, is honest to a fault, a bit naive even. The other, Ha, is sharp-witted, always scheming, always talking his way out of trouble. They both end up working in the same tea restaurant, and of course, they both have eyes for the boss's daughter. It's the classic setup: the earnest, hardworking guy versus the clever charmer. This could be a predictable story, except, a "God of Fortune" enters the scene. Now, things are really going to get interesting. Forty years pass. The story moves to the present, and the question is, how did their lives turn out? Did the honest guy get ahead? Does the slick one get his comeuppance? **

** Okay, so I'm thinking about how this movie is a real throwback, a nostalgia trip. The ensemble cast is great, especially Veronica Yip, making a comeback. That alone is exciting. Alan Tam and Natalis Chan's interactions provide comedic relief. The directors know what they're doing by leveraging the chemistry between Bosco Wong and Michael Tse, revisiting their *Laughing Gor* rivalry in a comedic way. What really resonates with me is the film's warmth. It isn't just a laugh-out-loud comedy; it's got heart. It's asking, in a lighthearted way, if it's worth being true to yourself in a world that values quick results. The visuals, the vibrant colors, it's like a vintage postcard of Hong Kong. It's a love letter to a city that's always been about working hard and never giving up. It's a perfect antidote to those heavy, complex films. A simple joy.
