The spotlight shines on the gleaming black surface of the piano. Tom Cat, in a sharply tailored tuxedo, looks as solemn as a master about to be written into history. He elegantly adjusts his cuffs, bows deeply to the imaginary audience, and then his fingertips fall, and Liszt's famous "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" begins to flow. At this moment, Tom seems to have completely bid farewell to his usual clumsiness and slapstick, and has become a shining pearl in the classical music hall. However, the inside of this exquisite piano is another world. Jerry, the little mouse who is dreaming on the high E string, is shaken out of bed by a sudden loud noise. The angry Jerry decides to fight back, so this is not only an auditory feast, but also becomes a thrilling ring match. Tom must maintain the rhythm of the performance while dealing with various deadly traps created by Jerry between the keys and strings. You will see Tom's fingers flying on the black and white keys like a phantom, while Jerry turns the inside of the piano into a playground. When the impassioned melody enters the climax, Tom not only has to play the piano with ten fingers, but also has to guard against having his hands clamped by the piano lid, having his nails trimmed by scissors, and even having to endure Jerry tap-dancing on the bridge. This cat-and-mouse battle becomes more intense in the rhythm of the notes. Can Tom save his last dignity before the end of the movement?

This is not just an animated short film, it is simply an artistic miracle in the history of animation. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera have brought the synchronization of vision and hearing to the extreme. Every rise and fall of each key is precisely aligned with Liszt's score. This sense of seamless rhythm is enough to make any obsessive-compulsive viewer feel extremely comfortable. The most wonderful thing is the extreme contrast between elegance and chaos. On the one hand, there is an extremely serious and sacred classical music performance, and on the other hand, there are all kinds of hilarious physical conflicts. Tom's professional quality of insisting on keeping a smile and carrying on the performance even if his hands are swollen from being clipped is, in the absurdity, reveals a strange sense of tragic grandeur. The whole film has no lines, but it tells the most wonderful story with music and action. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film that year, which was well-deserved. Watching this film, you will be infected by that pure sense of humor, and you will also be amazed by the old-school animators' attention to detail. That smooth sense of movement and imaginative game, even today, can still instantly defeat most works of the same type. No markdown. No forbidden openings. Section headers are correct. And it's engaging... good.
