A pair of eyes, shrouded in darkness for twenty years, the moment the bandages are removed, sees not the colorful rebirth of the world, but the fissure of hell. Huang Jiayuan, who has been blind since childhood, finally gained light through surgery, but what followed was an inescapable nightmare. She found that she could not only see the flowing traffic, but also see those dead people wandering in the corners and crawling on the ceiling. The most hair-raising thing is that whenever she looks in the mirror, what is reflected is a completely unfamiliar face. To find out the truth, Jiayuan, accompanied by her doctor, went to Thailand to try to find the original owner of the cornea. As the truth unfolds layer by layer like peeling an onion, a story about prophecy, self-blame, and despair emerges. What did the girl who donated the cornea go through? Why has she been asking for help from the world through Jiayuan's eyes? When Jiayuan thought she was finally approaching the end, she realized that the real disaster was just beginning, and every illusion she saw was actually the last ultimatum issued by the god of death.

If you're looking for a movie that will make you not dare to take the elevator alone for days after watching it, then this film is definitely the first choice. The reason why it can become a benchmark for Asian horror films is because the director Pang Brothers understand what a sense of atmosphere is. That kind of fear is not caused by a monster jumping out to scare you, but by creating an ever-present sense of oppression through the most ordinary scenes in daily life - elevators, barbecue restaurants, stairwells. Especially the slow motion in that elevator, it's simply a psychological torment of the film history level, the dead silence of the slow turn is enough to make every audience hold their breath. Li Sinje's acting is vividly demonstrated in this play, her neurotic sense of fragility and the horror in her eyes allow the audience to empathize instantly. This is not just a scary ghost movie, it actually has a very core tragic color. The film writes the sense of doom of foretelling disaster but being powerless to change it to the extreme. When the final grand scene erupts, you will find that the scariest thing may not be the ghost, but the inevitable tragedy, and the insignificance of human beings in the face of fate. It is the kind of different kind of masterpiece that even if it makes you break out in a cold sweat, it will eventually leave you with a trace of melancholy.
