A young soul, completely shattered by fate, chooses to say goodbye in his darkest moment, only to unexpectedly begin a journey of wandering across borders. This movie, *Bodyshop*, is not the kind of dark and scary horror film you might expect. It's more like a dream filled with warmth. The protagonist is a young soldier who dies after being sexually assaulted. His soul lingers in the mourning hall. After the final kiss on his mother's forehead, he transforms into a wisp of smoke, possessing different people. This is a journey to find his brother, who has already undergone gender reassignment and moved far away. From the humid streets of Taiwan to the cherry blossoms of Japan, from the scorching sun of Spain to the exotic customs of Thailand, he's like a mischievous spectator, intervening in the love and hate of strangers, punishing faithless men. However, he is powerless when facing his sister's difficult love life. Eventually, this wandering soul settles in a hidden place in Hong Kong called "Bodyshop". There, a mysterious business is operated that is not tolerated by the secular world, and it also hides his final destination.

Scud's work has always been known for challenging taboos and having the ultimate visual impact, but in this movie, I feel a kind of gentle sadness. He crams grand themes such as life and death, gender, lust and soul, all into an almost absurd road movie framework. What is most talked about is that the film's inspiration actually comes from the real-life "possession" experience the male lead had during the filming of his previous work. This intertwined background of reality and illusion adds a layer of eerie and fascinating filter to the viewing process. He Fei's performance has a fragile and pure beauty, he travels between different bodies, as if looking for a place to accommodate the souls of all those who are marginalized by society. This is not only a pioneering work exploring transgender and queer culture, but also a long poem about loneliness and redemption. If you are tired of conventional narratives and want to see something with a strong visual impact and a great imagination, then this "Bodyshop" is definitely worth your careful tasting.
