The Parisian summer is gently creeping into every corner, the once bustling apartment buildings are becoming deserted, everyone is busy heading towards the sun-drenched beaches or mountains, leaving Delphine as the only outlier, forgotten by the holiday. Freshly broken up, she faces a canceled travel plan and a suffocating amount of alone time. She's like a sensitive, fragile snail, rejecting the compassionate invitations from friends and family, and instead, alone, she wanders between various vacation spots. She appears at a noisy dinner table but bursts into tears because of a joke made by others. She walks along the seaside promenade, but she appears out of place because she can't blend into the crowds. She seems to be looking for something ultimate, something pure, but she can't explain what exactly that is, until she accidentally hears a group of elderly people mention a legend on the beach. It's a secret about the green light, it is said that at the instant of sunset, if one can capture that fleeting flash of green light, one can see their own heart and the heart of their lover. This almost absurd notion becomes Delphine's last lifeline in the long summer. She embarks on the journey again with this almost obsessive expectation. In the train station waiting room, she lowers her head and reads Dostoevsky's novel, and a stranger's smile catches her attention. At that moment, there seems to be a subtle vibration in the air. She surprisingly issues an invitation, and the two walk towards the beach dyed red by the sunset. The waves are crashing against the rocks, and the sun is slowly sinking into the sea level. Delphine holds her breath, waiting for the answer, the miracle that might save her entire summer.

If you've ever felt unprecedented loneliness in a lively party, or if you've just wanted to stubbornly hold onto your tiny insistence when facing everyone's recommendations, this movie will certainly strike your soul. Director Eric Rohmer is simply a master at capturing emotions, he uses extremely natural, almost documentary-like shots to capture the most hidden wrinkles deep within a girl's heart. Many people might find the female lead, Delphine, a little affected or even awkward at first, but as the plot progresses, you'll find that she is actually the unyielding self within each of us. She doesn't want to go with the flow to escape loneliness, and she doesn't want to fake a smile for a so-called vacation. This clumsy insistence seems both lonely and noble in this fast-paced world. The colors and shadows in the movie are so beautiful that they make people intoxicated, and the clear feeling of the French summer seems to be able to rush towards you through the screen. It doesn't have that deliberately arranged ups and downs, all the tension is hidden in the trivial conversations and aimless wandering. This slow-paced narrative instead creates a strong sense of immersion, making you anxious and disappointed with Delphine, and waiting quietly on the beach together. The green light in the film is not only an optical phenomenon, but also a metaphor for happiness: it is extremely difficult to meet, requires luck, and more importantly, that persistent waiting to the end. When the accumulated emotions of the whole film erupt at the last moment, that sense of healing is indescribable. This is not only a movie about finding love, but also a summer ode written for all lonely souls. It's about *her* journey, the feeling. From Paris to Cherbourg, to the Alps, back to the coast. Like she's this sensitive antenna, picking up signals no one else cares about. She refuses to settle for mediocre company. The *法式浪漫* of it all, the *夏日的焦灼*. The whole film is a meditation on the courage to wait for something specific.
