Six hundred years ago, in the streets of Kyoto, a young man with a strange face hidden by a wooden mask ran through the mud with uneven limbs. He was called Inu-Oh, born with a terrifying appearance due to a curse, and considered a disgrace by his family. At the same time, a young man named Tomona, blind due to an accident, was wandering the chaotic world with a biwa, searching for the truth about his father's killer. These two souls, abandoned by the world, met by chance on the riverbank, igniting a spark that would burn through the entire era. One could dance the most wonderful dance anyone has ever seen, the other could play the wildest tune that could shatter souls. When Inu-Oh took off the long sleeves, revealing deformed but full of vitality arms, Tomona plucked out rock and roll that was ahead of his time on the strings. They were no longer humble beggars and freaks, but the brightest stars in that conservative era. As their fame grew, Inu-Oh's body underwent incredible changes in each stunning performance, but this crazy performance that challenged tradition subtly touched the sensitive nerves of the Shogun.

This isn't a period animation, it's a rock music festival that transcends time and space. Director Masaaki Yuasa used his almost crazy imagination to crush the boring history of Noh, sprinkled a handful of psychedelic rock powder, and exploded a visual wonder all over the screen. The slightly grotesque character lines under Taiyo Matsumoto's pen were given an extremely humble and extremely arrogant vitality under Akiko Nogi's script. What is most exciting is the "even if only one person remembers, my existence is meaningful" kind of solitary courage. Yoshihide Otomo's original soundtrack is simply the touch of the gods. When the crisp sound of the biwa collided with the roar of the electric guitar, you would find that history is no longer the text in the old paper pile, but the hot breath of these little people. It asks every audience member: if your voice is destined to be erased, are you still willing to exhaust your life and roar at that moment? If you crave a thrill of the soul, crave a glimpse of that cursed but incredibly free soul, this movie is for you.
