A retired tough guy, what he most wants to protect is not some earth-shattering secret, but a full-score test paper in his daughter's schoolbag. In a picturesque small town in the southern United States, Jason Statham plays former DEA agent Broker who is trying to wash away the smell of gunpowder on his hands, trying to give his young daughter a normal childhood. He thought that as long as he kept a low profile, those past events of swords and shadows would never come to the surface again, like stones sinking to the bottom of the lake. However, a peaceful life is often destroyed by the most insignificant spark. His daughter's justifiable defense at school unexpectedly angered a local overbearing family, and the power behind this family is Gator, a drug lord played by James Franco. Gator is not the kind of fool who only knows how to use force; he is like a poisonous snake hiding in the dark, not only smelling out the flaws in Broker's identity, but also inviting his ex-girlfriend, played by Winona Ryder, to help out. As Broker's real file is opened, the once tranquil home instantly becomes the coveted hunting ground for various gangsters. The other party is pressing step by step, and even sneaks into his home to search for old items. This bottom-line provocation makes the former top agent realize that escape is no longer meaningful. The most wonderful thing about this film is its pure sense of old-fashioned action movies. The script comes from the hand of Stallone, and it has the retro blood of that tough guy's tenderness. It does not pursue fancy special effects, but makes the sense of oppression that a storm is about to come to the extreme. Watching Jason Statham restrain his previous aura of killing gods and humbly apologize to his neighbors for his daughter, the kind of forbearance of a hero in his twilight years is really captivating. The addition of James Franco injects a kind of strange tension into the film. The drug lord he plays is not a muscular thug, but a local snake with a morbid neurosis and a little self-righteousness. This combination of weakness and viciousness forms a strong chemical reaction with Statham's steel-like composure. The rhythm of the movie is well controlled. The first half is a test in the style of warm water cooking frogs, and the second half is a violent output like a volcanic eruption. If you like to watch the scene where the bottom line is touched and then completely erupts, then this film can definitely make you enjoy it.
