I'm picturing this: the humid air, the Yangtze, a flickering neon sign casting an eerie glow. It starts with a group of friends in a small town along the Yangtze River in the 1990s. The air is thick with the scent of diesel and water. We have this rebellious, intense young man, Zhao Xiaolong, played by Li Xian, who loves a girl named Dongdong. They're young, wild, on motorcycles, thinking life is this unending river. Then, she disappears. Years pass, a reunion happens, and everyone has moved on with their lives except for Xiaolong. He's still obsessed with finding the truth of what happened. The film is about youth, the passage of time, and the weight of disappearance. I'm seeing an opening that focuses on Xiaolong's stubbornness versus the others' silence, maybe a metaphor that says truth is a ship lost in the fog. I like the idea of starting with the vibe – the sounds, the smells, the feeling of that 90s town. I'm focusing on the contrast between that raw youth and the settled, compromised adults. It's clear to me how I'll draft the introduction. It's a humid past shrouded in river fog, the dull roar of old ships, mixing with the smell of machine oil and youthful hormones. It's the 90s, Xiaolong – played by Li Xian – is a wild kid with an intense gaze, riding his motorcycle with his love, Dongdong, thinking life would just flow like the river forever. But then, it stops with a sudden event. Dongdong disappears. Years later, everyone has changed. Xiaolong is the only one who won't let it go, searching for the truth.

The title is brilliant, *The Enigma of Arrival*. The film's really about the *inability* to arrive. I'm thinking about the theme of moral compromise. The theme seems to be that some things, some mistakes, stay with you forever. That river… it's not just a background. I see it as this vast, dark hole that swallows innocence and hides secrets. I'm seeing Li Xian's performance as raw and gritty, really effective. The film's strength lies in its heavy, oppressive atmosphere, slow and painful peeling away of self-deception and cowardice. That's what sticks with you. I think it is about something deeper than finding the girl, but about finding a part of yourself that isn't afraid of the truth, even if it's painful. This film has something to say, I think.
