This film is like a glass of mint soda swaying in the summer afternoon, refreshing, agile, and also with a slight tingling feeling. Director Peter Chan uses the lightest touch to explore an extremely profound proposition: are we in love with a person's gender, or with the soul itself? The lines in the film about "I don't care whether you are a man or a woman, I just know that I like you," still make people's hearts tremble even today. It strips away all the labels of the world, returning love to its purest background. Leslie Cheung's state in the play is charming to the extreme. He brought to life Gu Jiaming's childishness and struggle hidden under the shell of the elite. Watching him play and sing "追" at the piano, you will really believe that there is a charm in this world that can transcend gender and time. And Anita Yuen's performance is even more inspiring. That androgynous juvenile sense, both the shyness of a girl and the refreshingness of a boy, no wonder she won the film queen award with this role. What makes people sigh the most is that this is not only a hilarious romantic comedy, but it is also a love letter written to the Hong Kong entertainment industry of the 1990s.
