Here's the setup: Stu, a publicist – a slick liar – is using the last public phone on a Manhattan street to call his mistress. Classic, right? Then the phone rings again. He picks it up, and a voice delivers a chilling ultimatum: "Hang up, and you die." At first, he thinks it's a joke, until a bullet hits someone. Now, he's trapped. The police arrive, they think *he's* the shooter. His wife and his mistress are on the scene. It's like his whole life, his lies, are being stripped bare in front of the world. He's trapped in a glass box, and the whole world is watching. Imagine that: a public figure, exposed, cornered. The ringing phone.

The film itself is efficient, just 81 minutes long, no wasted time. Colin Farrell's performance is the key – he moves from cocky to utterly broken. The phone booth becomes a confessional, a sort of psychological pressure cooker. The director, Joel Schumacher, manages to crank up the tension within such a limited space, it's a masterclass in minimalist thrills. Farrell goes through a transformation, from this arrogant, self-serving character, to someone terrified and vulnerable, having to expose his deepest, ugliest truths in front of everyone. It's a moral trial, more than just a cat-and-mouse chase. The unseen sniper is the judge, and he's not interested in money, just truth. The film is still relevant today, this exploration of how we all perform, how we all wear masks, and what happens when those masks are violently ripped away, that stark reality is powerful.
