If we're talking about the golden era of Hong Kong cinema and we're picking out the most joyous, most heart-warming family photo, then this movie is it. The story takes place in the home of the Chang family, and the personalities of the three brothers are so wildly different, it makes you wonder if they're even related. The eldest brother, Chang Moon, is a successful businessman, but he has an overworked, unglamorous wife at home, while his heart is elsewhere in the world of glamour. The second brother, Chang So, is more delicate and sensitive than a woman, constantly bickering with his hardcore biker cousin. The youngest brother, Chang Foon, is the radio's most charismatic playboy, always chasing women, but he surprisingly meets a quirky girl who dreams of Hollywood movie scenes. This household experiences daily chaos until a series of absurd events disrupt the balance. The eldest brother's infidelity leads to his unadorned wife's defiant departure, and she becomes a stunning goddess. The youngest brother suffers a bizarre accident that damages his brain, causing him to become erratic, but he eventually sees who his true love is. The most delightful dynamic is between the second brother and the cousin. These mismatched rivals with reversed personalities surprisingly spark an unexpected romance after constantly clashing. The whole film is like a pot of hotpot: diverse ingredients with a spicy and savoury flavour. In that home where everyone has their own hidden motives, yet protects each other, a grand drama of reconciliation, growth, and reunion begins to unfold. Now, we need to highlight what makes it so special. The cast chemistry, the "Mo Lei Tau" humor, the nostalgia... It's all there. And the star power! Here's my take:

Watching this film is like having a reunion with old friends on the afternoon of the Lunar New Year. The vitality and pure joy that hits you is something that many big-budget productions today can't capture. Stephen Chow's "Mo Lei Tau" isn't as deeply deconstructed as in his later works, but that lively comedic rhythm already has you in stitches, especially his famous "Parisian Iron Tower" flip, which has become a timeless classic in Hong Kong film history. Leslie Cheung gives what fans consider his most subversive performance, playing the effeminate character with such tenderness and kindness that it's not at all off-putting; it's extremely endearing. His onscreen chemistry with Monica Mok, his former lover in real life, is unparalleled. Director Clifton Ko's genius lies in his ability to make a rather melodramatic family drama feel like a fantastical fairytale. Although the plot is full of exaggerated coincidences and absurd performances, the core message is extremely tender. It teaches us how to love those closest to us, telling us that even if life is a mess, as long as family is present, you can turn it into a beautiful feather duster. The most touching moment in this film isn't the hilarious twists and turns, but when the whole family, dressed in red, sings the "Gong Xi Fa Cai" theme song to the camera. That overflowing sense of happiness jumps right off the screen. It's a peak of Hong Kong comedy; no matter how bad your mood is, just turn it on, and the warm, bustling warmth of the film will instantly cure your unhappiness. Right, I think that captures it. Opened with the right tone, no Markdown, used the right tags, and the enthusiasm should be evident. Now I'm ready to move on.
