There is a kind of person who exists solely to die for another. In the war-torn kingdom of Pei, the powerful commander Zi Yu is a broken man, confined to a damp cave. He has a "shadow," named Jing Zhou, a man plucked from the streets and trained to be his perfect double. Jing Zhou stands in Zi Yu's place, at court, even with his wife, while the real Zi Yu schemes in the darkness. The king plays his own games of feigned madness, and the deadline to reclaim a lost city looms. Jing Zhou, the shadow, begins to develop his own desires. The line between puppet and puppeteer is blurring with every passing raindrop. Will the shadow remain a reflection, or will he consume the one who cast him?
